Stephen Donnelly, a native of Altoona, Pennsylvania, acquired a Bachelor of Science in Music Education Degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, PA. While at Duquesne, Mr. Donnelly played in the top ensembles including the Advanced Jazz Ensemble and Wind Symphony while studying under some of the top trumpet players in the industry. Among these players were Charles Lirette of the Pittsburgh Symphony, Jazz Legend Dr. John Wilson and Sean Jones, lead trumpet in the “Jazz at Lincoln Center” Orchestra featuring Wynton Marsalis.
Mr. Donnelly is currently an Elementary Music Specialist at the Quaker Valley School District in Sewickley, PA teaching K-5 elementary music and specializing in the “Orff-Schulwerk” approach to music education. As a member of organizations such as the American Orff-Schulwerk Association (AOSA), Pennsylvania Music Educators Association (PMEA), the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and the International Association of Jazz Educators (IAJE), Mr. Donnelly remains active as an educator, composer and performer.
Along with being a freelance trumpet player, Mr. Donnelly can currently be found performing with Pittsburgh’s only all-vocal band, “DoubleShot.” In his free time, Mr. Donnelly enjoys exploring, discovering and increasing his knowledge of technology relating to classroom and general use.
Mr. Donnelly was the Assistant Director of the Quaker Valley High School Marching Band from 2011-2019, and is currently the brass instructor.
